Evidence-informed ideas and practical tools for the human side of healthcare.
The REVAMP™ Framework
The Science of Human Flourishing, Translated for Healthcare
Clinical training prepares healthcare professionals to care for others. REVAMP™ focuses on the human skills that help clinicians navigate the challenges of caring for others while sustaining themselves throughout their careers.
Grounded in Martin Seligman’s PERMA model of flourishing, REVAMP™ integrates research from positive psychology, including the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi on engagement and flow, Barbara Fredrickson on positive emotions, Carol Dweck on growth mindset, Christopher Peterson on character strengths, and Jonathan Haidt on human connection and moral emotions.
Drawing on more than three decades of clinical experience and advanced training in applied positive psychology, Michelle translates this research into six practical domains that address the realities of healthcare.
From navigating uncertainty and perfectionism to building relationships, protecting energy, and finding meaning in clinical work, REVAMP™ offers a framework for developing skills that traditional healthcare education often leaves unexplored.
Flourishing is not about asking clinicians to adapt endlessly to unhealthy systems. It is about equipping individuals with meaningful skills while recognizing that healthy organizations are equally essential to sustainable careers in healthcare.

What feels like evidence that you are inadequate may actually be evidence that you are in the middle of learning how to do an extraordinarily difficult job. Those are not the same thing.
PA school teaches students an extraordinary amount. But there is another part of becoming a clinician that we spend far less time talking about: what becoming competent is actually going to feel like. The uncertainty. The second-guessing. The first patient encounter you replay in your head long after you’ve gone home.
The nurse catches you in the hallway. “I saw your orders on the patient in 4. I think we should watch the potassium more closely. I’ve seen this go south fast.” Your face gets hot. Your internal monologue kicks in: “I…
You know the patient is stable. The labs from this morning were reassuring. The exam is unchanged. But it’s 2 AM, your attending might round at 6, and something whispers that you should order one more test. Just to be…
It’s 11 PM, and you’re still charting. Again. Sarah, a recent grad, refreshes her EMR dashboard one more time. Her attending saw 32 patients today. She only managed 24. The gap feels like failure. Never mind that she…
Your attending walks toward you with “that look.” Your heart rate spikes. Your palms sweat. Your mind goes completely blank on material you knew cold five minutes ago. This isn’t imposter syndrome. This isn’t a lack of…
You just finished a 10-hour shift. On your way out, you stop by the front desk to grab your things, and the receptionist hands you a stack of papers. “Patient satisfaction surveys from this week,” she says. You flip…

This is Part 2 of my series on the learner vs. judger mindset in healthcare. In Part 1, I shared the story of my tearful patient with menopausal hair loss who came in clutching TikTok screenshots and refusing minoxidil.…
She walked in tearfully, clutching her phone with screenshots of TikTok hair-loss hacks. A 52-year-old woman in perimenopause with diffuse thinning over the crown and widening of the central part. Before she even sat…
